According to google, this is the definition of ‘investment’, although it’s not quite straightforward. We are talking about the stock market which has a profit loss ratio of 1:1. Everyone thinks of stock market as a money-making machine but but that’s not true. One should never jump blindly into the stock market, this is to be done with the sheer knowledge of the stocks. And for this, there’s no better option than watching a movie to urge to understand the stock exchange at a basic level. Knowledge and entertainment together form an excellent combination. So here are 5 movies you ought to watch before beginning to invest.

1. Wall street [1987] | IMDb : 7

This movie is about young and impatient stockbroker who is willing to do anything to get to the top, including trading in illegal inside information taken through a ruthless and greedy corporate raider who takes the youth under his wing.

2. The wolf of wall street[2013] | IMDb: 8.2

This movie is based on the true story of Jordan Belfort and his partner Donny Azoff who together started a brokerage firm Stratton Oakmont. This film shows there rise to a wealthy stockbroker living the high life to their fall involving crime, corruption and the federal government.

3. Trading places[1983] | IMDb: 7.5

This movie tells us about the ups and downs of trading in a comedy genre giving the basics of socio-economics and class structure in America. The movie also depicts many stereotypical views of money.

4. Boiler room[2000] | IMDb: 7

This movie revolves around a college dropout, attempting to live up to his father standards, gets a job as a broker for a suburban investment firm which puts him on the fast track to success. But the job might not be as legitimate as it first appeared to be.

5. The big short[2015] | IMDb: 7.8

Last and the best movie on our list of top stock market movies to watch. This movie is based on a non-fiction book written by Michael Lewis and directed by Adam McKay. It’s an Oscar-winning film in 2015 and 37 other wins. It depicts a dramatic tale of events that led to the financial crisis.

This is my favorite web series which has the greatest IMDb ratings of all time. Set in 1980’s and 90’s Bombay, it follows the life of Harshad Mehta, a stockbroker who took the stock market to dizzying heights and his catastrophic downfall. He was also known as the big bull of BSE [ Bombay Stock Exchange].
